I have been busy canning the last couple of weeks, and have jars and jars of spaghetti sauce, pizza sauce, chili sauce, and salsa. I LOVE seeing the fruits of my labors stacked up in my pantry (I would take a picture, but they’re not stacked so nicely right now). This is my first year doing this. Other than maybe doing a batch of jam here and there, I really haven’t ever canned. Luckily, I’ve had a friend to show me the ropes this year and she’s let me borrow any equipment I didn’t have.
For our pizza sauce, we used a food strainer and sauce maker to remove the seeds and skins from the tomatoes. I want to make apple sauce within the next few days, and I know how handy one of these tools would be for that process, so I started searching on Amazon for a good deal.
I have settled on the Roma Food Strainer and Sauce Maker for Fresh Fruits and Vegetables for just $38.51 shipped. Regularly $60, it is already discounted, and has 42 5-star reviews! It seems simple and easy to use. One reviewer on Amazon commented that it was so easy that her 2-year-old son could turn the crank! I also like that it has a dual mounting system, with a suction cup base and a C-clamp to attach it to the edge of your counter.
