Last week my family had the opportunity to review Cowabunga Bay Water Park in Draper.  We chose to go on a Thursday, thinking it might be a little less crowded that day, minimizing the time spent in lines.  Plus, on Thursdays admission is only $9.99 after 3:00!

Thankfully, there was no line at the entrance to the park, which was super nice, since it was 100+ outside and we were all eager to get in the water to cool off.  Even though we didn’t arrive till 2 pm, we were quickly able to find a nice shaded spot on the grass for our family.  Later in the day, we moved to shaded chairs in the Kids Cove.  I loved that there was TONS of shade available, and I’m pleased to report that no one in our family got sunburned!

Cowabunga Bay Slide

Cowabunga Bay is most noticeable for its water slides.  They have FIVE big slides, 3 medium slides, and 2 little double slides for toddlers. Being 8 months pregnant, I didn’t attempt them, but my slide-loving husband tested all of them! I’ll give you his full report in a couple days.

My 7-year-old daughter also rode 4 of them and felt pretty cool to be riding the big kids slides, and even my 5-year-old daughter was comfortable on 2 of them by herself. Our 2-year-old son went down with Daddy on two of the shorter slides, but preferred to watch and cheer on his sisters to getting splashed in the face himself.

Cowabunga Bay Park Admission

The river is full of fun items that shower you with cool spray to help you stay nice and cool while you relax in the river.

Kids Cove

Our favorite place at the park was the Kids Cove. My 2- and 5-year-olds couldn’t get enough of the little double slide.  There’s also a medium-sized slide that Daddy could take the kids down, or my 7-year-old could ride by herself.  The water was only about a foot or so deep, and the area is small enough that I could plop myself down in the shade in the water and keep an eye on all my kids at the same time while Dad went to ride the big boy slides.

Cowabunga Bay Big Splash

Of course the Big Splash, a giant bucket that repeatedly fills with water and dumps water all over anyone standing underneath it, was also a big hit. My kids would always turn to look when the bell rang, indicating it was getting ready to tip over, and squeal with delight as the water spilled even when they weren’t anywhere near it.

And I can’t forget to mention the food! We ate lunch before we left, so we weren’t incredibly hungry, but did need a snack. I got a bucket of fries that were delicious (and came with free fry sauce!) and a huge Cowabunga Bay 44-oz refillable mug for us all to share.
