Never QuitWell, it’s official.  Life is crazy busy!!  I can’t believe that I haven’t posted about my weight loss and healthy living since January 9th!!!  That was TWO months ago!!  Are you kidding me.  WOW, how time flies!

First things first.  Even though I haven’t been posting, I am still going strong.  If you follow me on Instagram you might have seen some of my progress.  There have been some CRAZY ups and downs over the last few months.  But that’s life isn’t it?  Bumps in the road come all the time.  We all have things that come up that push us in one way or another.  The important thing is to make sure that we are still trying to progress, and that is what I am doing.  Just trying to take one day at a time.  This is a journey after all.  No short-cuts for me!  I am in this for the Looooooong haul.  And if that means that I have to stumble and fall to learn things along the way, then so be it.  It will be worth it in the long run to conquer this thing!

So here you go.  My quick and dirty two month update:

Becky VacationRight after I posted about starting my journey again on January 9th my family and I took a trip to Vegas and California.  We were gone for 11 days and it was Awesome!!  I’m not going to lie to you, I needed the break!  The holidays were killer for me (as you know) and I needed some serious R&R.  My trainer, Phil, was amazing.  He told me the most important thing for my health was to get a break.  Enjoy myself and not to stress.  He told me to try to make good choices and try to stick with healthy options as much as I could.  He also gave me some GREAT workout advice for the small gym that was there at the hotel.  {You guys – he was so great – I sent him pictures and he sent me back a workout!!  Sweet!!}

California was beautiful and I totally learned why people go running on the beach.  It is the BEST!  I absolutely loved it.  Running on the beach and doing stairs kicked my trash and I enjoyed it a TON!

I was thrilled that I didn’t gain any weight over my vacation because I had been on a steady weight gain for some time.  And that sucks!  Once back to The GYM I really buckled down and started working out 5 days a week (2 with Phil and 3 just myself and the treadmill).

But, with my coming back so did the stress.  I believe that stress will be my biggest battle in losing weight and getting healthy.  I tend to take on too much in my day and with the stress comes less and less sleep as well.  Not a good combo when you are trying to get healthy.  I really noticed that I was getting down on myself.  And the weight wasn’t coming off.  About 2 weeks after getting home I just broke down.  I didn’t know what I was going to do.  Here I was feeling like I was doing the work and I wasn’t losing weight.  So crazy frustrating.

So I laid it all out with Phil.  I told him that I had been eating WAY too few calories before.  That I felt like I didn’t know how to eat anymore.  That I HATE FOOD!!!  And this is the honest truth.  I hate DEALING with food.  Oh, I love eating food.  But I hate preparing food, I hate worrying about food, and I hate stressing over food.  I still really struggle with it.  You would think that after being on a weight loss program for over a year (and losing over 100 pounds) I would have this figured out by now.  But I don’t.  Please tell me that I’m not the only one.  I really do try to make healthy choices but it turns out that I either eat WAY too few calories or I eat WAY too many.  I have an issue with balance.  So I am learning……slowly……very slowly…..

No ScalePhil told me to get rid of my scale!!  WHAT??!!  He is CRAZY!!  How the heck am I going to be able to obsess over my weight with no scale?  But, since we are selling our house anyway, I decided to just do as he said and pack it up!!!  I did it.  I no longer have a scale in my home.  Weird!!  But it is oddly freeing.  And you know what?  It is working!!  In the past few weeks I’ve noticed that my clothes are fitting a little bit looser!

Now, I have no idea if I’ve even lost any weight.  When I weighed in at the 4 week mark I was actually up a pound or two….  But you know what???  I had lost a TON of inches!!!  I am getting stronger.  It was super exciting!

I’ll be measuring again in a few days.  I’m excited to see where I am at again.

Your plansBut what is even more exciting is realizing how I feel.  I am going through some seriously stressful stuff right now.  Selling a home is hard (among other things) and I am still getting to The GYM every day!  That is HUGE you guys!  Having someone waiting for you there ready to help you become a better person is such a HUGE help.  I feel like I have more than just a personal trainer.  I have a friend and a therapist.  Ha!  Someone who I can tell what is going on in my life and he is helping me through it.  He wants me to succeed and he is going to help me get there!  It is awesome!

Becky at The GYMI am getting SO much stronger.  I am blown away by what I can do now versus what I was doing when I started.  Having someone who really knows what they are doing and understands what I NEED is totally worth it.

The Gym at Station Park with The GirlsI’m doing it!!  I am getting healthy.  One day at a time.  One moment at a time.  When I hit a heart-rate of 187 last week I threw a little party for myself {I might have invited along a few friends – and we might be throwing a party for you too – spoiler alert}.  My highest had been 169 before and when I started it was in the 150’s.

You guys!!!  Can I even tell you what that means?  I’m getting stronger.  I’m getting healthier.  My heart is getting stronger.  And it doesn’t matter what a scale says.  What matters is knowing that.  I can do hard things!  I can continue to get stronger!  And I WILL do it!

Come along with me, won’t you?  I’d love to hear what you are doing to get healthy.  One day at a time!!

  • I am fully blaming our lack of real winter on my weight loss hiccup – I apparently don’t deal well with grey skies and rain, give me white fluffy snow and I’m a happy camper but grey skies and rain…makes me depressed and apparently I like to eat when I’m depressed. I did nothing but gain weight for 6 weeks (last 2 weeks of January and most of February) – I’m happy to report that paying attention to what I’m doing (and buying pebble ice to chomp on) is helping me not grab crap to snack on. Like you I keep finding that I am not eating enough calories…it’s the worst when you think you’re doing well and it just stalls you out. Thanks for keeping us up to date on your process and being an inspiration!

    • I’m telling you. It seems like it has just been harder lately. I’m glad you found something that is working for you. I am really liking Quinoa. Yummy. When I’m good and I make a bigger batch and put it in the fridge I do much better. Prep on food is key for me.

Thanks so much for your comment. It is always nice to know I’m not alone in all of this. 😉

      Love ya!

  • Becky!!!! This is soooo motivating, I love hearing of your journey and successes! You are doing great and especially during this busy time; well done! I was told to get rid of my scale too, muscle takes up less room in your body than fat so as long as you are losing inches, why should it matter what you weigh? Building muscle means you may see the scale go up a bit but eventually it will start coming down!!! Good job Becky! Im so lucky to have such an awesome friend!

  • Congratulations on all of your hard work! What an example you are! One week ago today my bariatric surgery was cancelled. I have taken it as a time to control my life and to do better for myself and my family. So with shoveling out of the snow here in Michigan I have a whopping three days down of working out and I am proud of myself for that. All we can try to do is make small changes and keep moving forward. Thank you for updating us!

    • Thanks Hallie. Totally!!! One day at a time. That is all any of us can do. And if we have a bad day, that doesn’t mean it has to be a bad week, and then a bad month. We can just chalk it up to a bad day and move on. Truth be told, I woke up with a HORRIBLE migraine yesterday. I had to cancel my appointment at the gym and then I totally killed two doughnuts. Ouch! Not my best day. BUT! Today I got up at 5:45 and got myself to the gym. I KILLED it!! I hit an all time best of a heart rate of 188 and I feel amazing. Today I’m eating well and I am putting yesterday behind me. It is all I can do. If I keep making good choices and doing my best I will come out on top! 🙂

  • Hey becky, congrats and good luck on your continued journey. I too am on a journey. Have lost a total of 95 lbs and am excited for both of us. Striving to be healthy is a conscious and livelong effort so taking it one day at time is very important. hope you continued success and happiness.

  • It definitely sounds like the scale stresses you out too much! I don’t believe in scales unless you have a medical condition that may require you to monitor your weight due to fluid retention.

You’ve come SUCH an incredibly long way, and should be soooo proud of yourself!!! If you continue to look at it as a lifestyle change, instead of a goal to meet, you may find that you’re less concerned with the numbers. You’re getting stronger, building muscle, increasing your stamina, and getting healthy. FANTASTIC! CONGRATS!!!!

I fell off of my workout routine five years ago, and I mean REALLY fell off. I started working out again the Monday after Thanksgiving, and WOW was it tough! I don’t go 5 times a week, but I do go 4 (1 hour each session), and I’m hoping to add in a yoga class or two, as well. It’s going to take time for me to get back to the me I used to be, but I’m going to keep pushing myself because the alternative is not healthy.

    Keep moving! 🙂

Oh, and that heart rate is way too high, isn’t it?????
