Just as John Henry proved that man conquers machine, the Dam Train Race challenges its runners against the 1800s’ most formidable racer: a steam locomotive. After boarding at the Soldier Hollow Train Platform, participants ride the Heber Valley Railroad to a secluded start line at the Deer Creek Dam. From there, a train whistle marks the start of a 12-kilometer footrace along the tracks on the shores of the Deer Creek Reservoir. Whether competing against themselves, each other, or the train, participants traverse the trail to the finish line, where they’ll receive a wooden finisher medal and celebrate the achievement with their fellow Industrial Age heroes.
