Do you feel like the opportunity for a high-quality preschool for at-risk children is lacking in Utah? The United Way does, and they have passed their HB 96 Utah School Readiness Initiative through the House Education Committee and the House floor with a vote of 49-24. The initiative is now headed to the Senate, and the United Way is asking for a public call to action.
Learn more about the initiative and how you can help HERE. By clicking the link “email my legislators” you will be taken to an editable form where you can send a personal message to lawmakers. The United Way asks you to include why preschool is important and how it’s affected you and your own children (or grandchildren). Once you hit “Send” it will automatically go to your own state Senator – you don’t even need to know who your legislators are! It’s simple and easy and takes 2 minutes. After you do the Alert, forward the Action Alert to five friends to help spread the word
Important facts about the bill:
- It does not create institutionalized daycare
- It does not force parents to put their children into public preschool programs
- It gives parents choices
