If you don’t already have a Southwest Rapid Rewards Card, I highly recommend this card. If you sign up right now, you can earn 85,000 Bonus Points! This card has lots of NEW perks, so make sure you check them out, even if you already have this card! It might be worth canceling your card now, then signing up again in a few weeks.
You’ll earn this reward after you spend $3,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening.
If you fly Southwest at all, you will want to get a rewards card just for the Free Checked Bags!! Cardmembers get their first checked bag free and up to 8 additional passengers on the same reservation also get free bags! This is HUGE!! For a family of 4, this would be a savings of up to $280 per roundtrip ($35 per bag per trip)!
Plus, Premier cardholders will now get to choose a PREFERRED seat up to 8 people on their reservation with this card within 48 hours prior to departure (for flights starting in 2026)! No more worrying if your family will end up separated throughout the cabin; you’ll know. You and up to 8 passengers on your reservation will also get to board earlier in Group 5, giving you earlier access to overhead bins. Sweet!
There are also lots of extra points you can earn on purchases, too, including 2 points per $1 spent on your internet and phone services, now also at grocery stores and restaurants! Plus cardholders will also get 2x points at gas stations! Knowing what your points are with the a Southwest Rapid Rewards Card will help you earn points faster!
Plus! When you book Southwest flights with your points you can cancel your flights or change them at ANY time with no penalties. This has come in handy so many times for me. I’ve booked flights and then the points (price) has dropped on the flights and I’ve gone back, canceled my flights, and rebooked for the lower points!
- Just a note, this card does have a yearly fee, but the bonus points, FREE 1st checked bag for up to 8 people on your reservation, choosing your travel party’s seats, and early boarding are totally worth it for me! Make sure you use your credit card responsibly and pay it off each month.
I personally like the Premier Card because it is only $50 more than the Plus Card but you get twice as many anniversary points. If you don’t plan to keep the card past a year, go with the Plus Card for a lower yearly fee.
You can use your point for flights to ANYWHERE that Southwest flies!!
Keep in mind once you have your companion pass qualifications met, you can fly TWO people for this many points!!
Here’s a quick example of what your points might be able to get you. I just quickly pulled up their Low Fare Calendar for Salt Lake City to Orlando for September 2025. These are points for flights on those days. Roughly, you can see that you can get flights for around 12,500 points each way. That’s over 3 roundtrip flights for FREE!
If you prefer to go to California, you can get flights for just 5,500 points each way to LAX in October. That’s 7 roundtrip flights for FREE!!
You can even fly to Hawaii using points!
Note: This is just an example. Flight prices change all the time.
Remember, you will need to sign up through my special link to get these bonus points.
Did you know if flight prices drop between now and the time you fly, you can easily change your flight to get the lower fare? I just checked and saved over 2k points on an upcoming flight!

Says offer unavailable.
I’m sorry. I’ve updated the post. It looks like we reached the limit on the 50,000 points. Now there is a 40,000 point offer available. This one is nice because the spending requirement is less but you still get a lot of points!
